House prices up £5000 in a year. Property Still Strong.

Nicholas Leeming, commercial director of the property website Zoopla, which carried out the analysis, said: “An extra £5,000 on the value of the average British home is good news and defies many of the predictions made at the start of the year.”

The value of Britain’s housing stock rose to £5.55trillion in 2010, according to figures released today.

It means every house owner in the UK recorded a daily average rise of £13.64 – or £4,978 annually – as a typical three-bedroom semi rose 2.36 per cent in value to £215,824 from £210,846 last December.

Property experts were last night hailing the increase as proof of the resilience of bricks and mortar in a fragile economic environment.

Pessimists had forecast a crash as banks and building societies caused a mortgage drought by refusing to lend and the recession took its toll.

But Britons refused to give up their home-owning dream and clawed their way on to the housing ladder, or up it.

    It was also mentioned on the news, with the presenter stating "not sure about that one" after reading the papers headlines.

    That's what made me go find it :D

  • my property was valued a few weeks back, ive lost 15k on paper as the surveyor valued it 9% less than what i paid for it in 2007 :( and its in Edinburgh. :(:(
