Buyer asking if they can have their courier pick up item

I'm with Soolin on this.
However, I would only allow it if the buyer paid via a non-Paypal method. For example, Bank Transfer.
This would cover you against chargebacks and allow them to take full responsibility for their own courier by arranging it themselves. You can also ask for extra £ to cover packaging costs.
Obviously this also depends on it being convenient for you to stay in on collection day.
Oh I agree, ideally a bank transfer beforehand would be ideal.
The thing that worries me here is that baby equipment is a very highly scammed area now on ebay and whilst I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, I would not have listed a piece of baby equipment unless I was prepared to cover myself by charging for my own courier.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Leaving aside the rights and wrongs of what paypal & ebay will do in this situation the more important point is surely it's easier to just offer a courier to all buyers than mess around with a special courier for one particular buyer.
So if you're not happy to offer a courier why cooperate with a buyer who wants to use one and if you are happy to cooperate why not offer one to everyone?0 -

Yep - ultimately this is right. The seller listed as Pickup only for a reason. If they had wanted to sort courier they would have offered this service. Any buyer should ask these questions before bidding and be turned away if the seller sticks to their guns.
It can be easy to deviate if someone shows interest when no one else has, albeit with their own T&Cs.
I say stick with your original stance and only allow personal collection with payment in cash upon collection. Keep relisting on these terms until you sell to someone who is willing to do this. Or try listing on gumtree for free.0 -
how about asking the bidder to pay for the courier and then sorting it out yourself ? I have done this with something that was collection only and never had any problems as I had the paperwork from the courier and the money from the buyer.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

You realy need to read the Paypal user agreement. This is so wrong it's laughable.Forwandert wrote: »Sorry but you're wrong, for some reason you have ignored my post and i can only assume it's because it doesn't fit the advice you wanted to give, so i'll just repeat myself again in the hope the OP will see it and disregard the inaccurate advice you are currently posting, i'll make my post a little longer as quantity appears to be more important.- Item was put on ebay pick up only,
- Buyer messages a request to send a courier,
- Seller agreed to buyers request,
- Buyer arranged courier, courier collected item 1x £270 pram in 2x black bin bag with address written on a A4 sheet of paper attached, no other packaging (buyer didn't ask us to package item nor pay for packaging, the only request was for a courier collection)
- Upon delivery of item buyer finds the frame has been damaged and wants a refund,
- Seller asks them to contact the courier to see what the policy in regards to damage in transit as pram was in good condition when sent, Seller can't contact courier as they are nothing to do with seller only the buyer has any sort of contract with courier company,
- Buyer refuses to contact courier stating the damage isn't possible from the courier, they just want a refund and go via paypal,
- Seller makes all points clear to paypal, pick up only item, not paid anything for packaging, not asked to package item to just be available for collection, messages available if requested etc, Buyer states item is damaged and not as described.
- Paypal claim denied

You are completely incorrect. Soolin as absolutely correct.
Go back to Paypal and read your Seller Protection. For items over £150 YOU, the SELLER needs to prove delivery and show a signature. The ONLY method accepted is an ONLINE trackable method with PROOF OF SIGNATURE viewable ONLINE.

I had someone living abroad ask me this today so he could bid on a collection only item. I said no as I did wonder if it would be fraught with difficulties.
So is the best thing for collection only items : pay by paypal before collection or cash on delivery and do I get them to sign a piece of paper to say they have received the item?0 -
Do not let the tail wag the dog.
I've had my leg lifted by trying to be helpful under very similar circumstances. If I now list something as collection only then there is a very good reason for not agreeing to a courier.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

Ideally you want cash on collection. However you cannot insist on it and if buyer pays by paypal no bit of paper , even if it is signed by HRH the Queen will serve for paypal purposes and in the case of a claim you will lose. Therefore either make sure you show all items with a courier charge or don't use ebay to sell items that must be collected unless they are cheap enough that you can take the loss if you are scammed.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
