Just completed on a repossession - what to do about bailiffs?

I bought from a guy that was in debt up to his eyeballs. Passport has always worked for me, show that and off they trot. Gentleman from the County Court asked a few questions... do I know the previous owner, any contact information etc. but I've never had any trouble.0

careful with the doors being open if you don't live there may be more difficult to get stuff back if the bailiffs have effected entry and walled off with your things. You're right they can't force entry but they can come in through an open window or door. Make sure your workmen always come for you if anyone suspicious calls0

Thanks - so far no problems - a few more letters but no calls at the door. The workmen have our mobile numbers so they will call if anyone turns up.
Thanks:rotfl:0 -
I bought a house that had been rented for years and the post was piled so high by the time I completed the door had opened in a ram-raid style fashion! All of this mail was chasing money.
As vikingareo says it is NOT an offence to open post if you are not using the info for personal gain.
I would recommend you contact every credit agency and write on the letter who you spoke and the date. Keep them for about a year so you know who was owed the money originally (ie a bank or a credit card).
This is because credit agencies are not legally allowed to sell on debts that they are aware they do not have the correct address for, but they do sell them on so you will get hounded for years as each agency tries to contact the old occupants.
I ended up complaining to the Credit Service Agency about one agency as they wouldn't take 'not here' as an answer. I hasten to add I've never had a bailiff turn up at the door.
Mobile phone bills are the only exception, these need returning to sender ASAP with gone away written on them. This triggers the phone company to suspend the service.
Be aware of all the post that is delivered as some of my homes old occupants starting reapplying for credit a year later as they knew the address and post code!0 -
Re workmen and open doors - we put notices in all the windows and on the front door advising change of ownership of different firm calling0
