depends on which model pre-pay0

Who does the meter belong to as you may need to have it replaced by them....0

It will most likely be on the front some where, on the electric meter you may have to press a button to get to the reading screen and check tariffs too some are much more expensive than others0

they should be able ot talk you through it on the phone whilst you are talking to them. I think for hte more modern ones you need to put the key or the card in and scroll throughSealed Pot Challenge # 1040 - Doing well0

is it an electric meter or a gas meter?
If its an electric key meter then main screen you will see disp A in the left hand side (the screen where it tells you how much you have for electric) keep pressing the blue button until you get screen H, then check for screen J. Screen H is your day units/rate 1 meter read and if you have screen J you are on a 2 rate meter and that shows your night usage.
If its a card meter, press the button and keep pressing until you see a lot of numbers and it will say rate 1 kwh or kwh r1 and if you keep pressing again and kwh r2 comes up then again your are on a 2 rate meter.
on the gas meter its in one of 2 places. its either above the main display screen as a box of 5 numbers in black then 3 numbers in red, kinda like an old car odometer before they went digital. the numbers in black are your meter read.
if its not there press the red button on the gas meter 3 times, so you get the main screen that tells you how much you have for gas, you get a screen that says £ (if anything) owed and you then get the meter index screen. on the meter index screen there is a long number somewhere on that screen which is your meter read. it may have m3 after the read as well.0
