  • Hi - 1st post.

I have been discharged from bankruptcy since 5th August 2011, I am currently repairing my credit file, about 60% into it, a few companies asking for a 'Certificate of discharge' but other than that, it's fairly smooth.

To get to my point, I had my Lloyds TSB Premier Account included in my bankruptcy, with a negative balance of just over £28.00, I had restricted use on the account throughout the bankruptcy, but as I was discharged, the account was closed down by Lloyds.

I have since then been online and re-applied for a Classic Account with debit card, and luckily been accepted. I don't know whether I will get a cheque book, but I will eventually apply for that and see, but I am delighted with a classic account, I am barely discharged as well.

I am surprised to hear others are finding it hard to get a cash account even.
  • Little update on what is happening with me at Lloyds TSB. I am discharged bankrupt, since 5th August 2011.
I had my Premier Account that was included in my bankruptcy closed. That was predicted. I have since then as recent as 3 weeks ago, applied for a Classic Account, and subsequently been accepted for that, which was great, I was surprised.

I have not received a debit card, no pin, no security number since then, and acted by phoning them and asking why? They could not talk to me because I had no security number to go through security. I then went to branch, and they were again, less than helpful by telling me there was nothing they could do as I have been made bankrupt. The branch manager said she could order me a cash card with the account, so at least that is on the way, along with a security no.

I have online banking where I see the classic account, along with three savings accounts I had previously with them still open.
I have noticed that I cannot set up standing orders, make transfers between accounts, only set up direct debits, which incidently I cannot even see set up. I am completely in the dark with it all. I then phoned my branch yesterday, no answer. I then phoned the main Lloyds number to ask that they leave a message with the branch to phone me regarding these problems I am enduring, no call back yet. They previously set me up an appointment to talk to the branch manager for a personal review, that has been cancelled.

I have been now told that my branch has put several restrictions on my account(s), and that is why I cannot do my normal banking activities so that the account can run smoothly in line with my personal needs.

I am at sixies and sevens, not knowing quite what to do, no one seems to want to help me, I before all this happened assumed without any overdraft, any credit etc, thought I could have an account with Lloyds duly opened for me to run normally, I have moved all my incomes, and direct debits to this account, but these restrictions are ridiculous. They prevent me from banking efficiently.

I am really surprised at Lloyds TSB's actions towards me, I genuinely thought I would get basic banking facilities and the opportunity to start a fresh with them, but it would seem to me that they are intent on ruthlessness in terms of punishing me for having a negative £28 balance with my old Premier account (Now closed), and the fact that despite being previously bankrupt (Now discharged).

What do I do? Should I put up with this when I can't explain myself properly, and show intent in improving my financial situation and relationship with the bank? And the fact that just normal banking activities cannot be aloud.

    I am confused!
  • Open a co op or barclays account as I see no way that lloyds will remove these restrictions untill such time their own internal procedures will allow.
