This might be a silly question, but how did you pay, was it with a credit or debit card? If credit card, simply call your card issuer and they will refund you without much hassle. If you paid by bank debit card then it depends how the bank deals with it, but it is still worth calling your bank/card issuer and explaining the situation - hopefully they should be able to return your money to you without having to go through the police.

My father had this a few years back and turned out to just be an internal mix up within the company. It can happen, but always best to chase it down to make sure they are not trying to scam you, but keep a level head until you find out if they are or not
