Hi,

Our meter is fast approaching 99999. I was wondering what happens when the meter turns over to 00000, does the supplier's billing system automatically pick this up and calculate the right consumption or do they have to go through some manual process to amend the billing accordingly?

Many thanks.

    Hi,

it'll be sorted, if your last reading was 99975 and your next reading is 00045, you have used 70 units, just add a 1 to the front of the zero's.

It's like a car mileometer, the car doesn't stop, when it gets to 100,000.

Check it when you get the bill though. Suppliers have been known to make billing errors!

The supplier knows how many digits you have on your meter so if their records say you have 5 digits they will go from 99999 to 00000, if by mistake they think you have 6 digits it will go from 99999 to 100000. If the latter happens you will need to phone them.
