B&Q extremely unhelpful - again!

Just been into B&Q to try and buy a vacuum cleaner, my local Homebase have them for £79.99 but there £97.99 in B&Q. I asked about the price promise and they said that they need to ring Homebase which they did and they didn't have any stock (they did this morning when I checked).
The next nearest branch of Hombase with stock is 12 miles away and B&Q won't price match unless I drive to another one of their stores in the same area.
It seems crazy to me that the price of the I have to drive 12 miles on a technicallity (apprantly they have a limit of 10miles).
I'm even more annoyed having spent well of 5k with them in the last 12months (probably more like 8k+)
The best bit was that I tried to ring their call centre to register a complaint to be told that some of their computers are down and they can't help me or transfer me to someone who can.
Seems like customer loyalty means nothing to B&Q.

I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling

So the nearest Homebase , you claim has stock at the lower price , but BQ wont accept that it has .
Am I missing something?? buy it from Homebase.0 -
It appears that my local homebase had stock when I rang this morning but have now sold out. The next nearest homebase is 12 miles away and they have 25 showing in stock but ironically the B&Q local to that store is out of stock.
Like you said I will just buy it from Homebase 12 miles away but its annoying that they arn't flexible over a couple of miles. Its not like i'm asking them to price match one in Glasgow from the midlands.
The B&Q price promise is a price match less 10% so I was trying to be money saving.
Just wanted to rant!I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling

I had the same problem with them over a drill I wanted to price match. To prove it was in Stock at argos 2 miles away, I reserved it on line.
They said it doesn't apply to Internet prices! I said its not an Internet price it's argos a high street shop and I only reserved it on line to prevent you claiming it's not in Stock.
Their price promise is a joke!0 -

Well good news for once, I checked and the price promise is for stores within a 10 mile radius. The store 12 miles away is actually 8.5 miles as the crow flies and is only 11.4 miles by road and hence falls within the 10 mile radius.
They buckled and sold me the vacuum at the price but did try to avoid reducing it by the extra 10%.
Today the little man took on the corporate giants and won.I have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling

I'm genuinly pleased for you but how much extra time and energy have you expended on this when the simple answer was just to go to the cheaper outlet in the first instance.

Yay!! Well done, I'm so pleased for you :TI'm genuinly pleased for you but how much extra time and energy have you expended on this when the simple answer was just to go to the cheaper outlet in the first instance.

I disagree slightly
. I'm glad you fought your corner, Homer, because you would have spent more at homebase when you factor in the fuel price of driving there and back plus you wouldn't have got your extra 10% off. So really well done! 0 -

It actually took about the same time and I saved another £8.
As for energy, a couple of phone calls and a bit of googling was all that was required. Far more entertaining than watching TV lI have a lot of problems with my neighbours, they hammer and bang on the walls sometimes until 2 or 3 in the morning - some nights I can hardly hear myself drilling

and this is a money saving site and may just have helped someone else make a saving by taking the trouble and then sharing his experience.
Lesson learned - take proof with you that the store is inside 10 miles in the first place...0
