router install on tiscali

hi all,

any advice much appreciated. Have just got Tiscali broadband installed, and it is working fine so far (via a usb modem they supplied conected to the dsl part of the phone line filter).

However, we have a router modem which we'd like to use instead so we can utilise its wireless cababilities. There's no difficulty with the computer seeing the router (connecting via network card and cable from computer to router), and we have configured the router to some extent to match tiscali settings. The problem though seems to be getting the router to do the 'dialling'.

Tiscali appears as a dialup connection which I suppose it is, but any calls to this connection when using the router say that the usb modem cannot be found.

Has anyone else installed their own router with tiscali or similar adsl provider?

ta,

sc

Do you have router with an inbuilt modem or are you linking it through the usb one? What router are you using?

With my router when I access it the first page asks for the "dial in" information (ie, username and password) and will only let me access the settings once I've confirmed the details are correct.

When using your router instead of the supplied USB modem, the Tiscali software that you have installed on your computer should not be used. Simply log in to your routers control screen i.e. http://192.168.1.1 and connect from there.

Thanks for all your help guys. It turned out to be very simple, changing the internet explorer setting under the connections tab to "never dial a connection". This forces use of the LAN, and the modem/router does all the connecting work itself.
