Ebay: parcel not delivered

Hi
I'd appreciate any advice you experienced Ebayers could offer please?
I sold a large item last week which was collected by the courier on Wednesday 8th December. The tracking shows it hasn't been delivered yet (they usually deliver within 48 hours but it's not a guaranteed service) and when I called them they explained they had a backlog due to bad weather.
My question is: at what point in time will I be obliged to provide a refund? I'm obviously hoping it is just delayed but am wondering how long to leave it before I offer a refund.
Thanks
Els x

Give your buyer the tracking details, at least then they can see the item has left you and is in transit.
If you refund before any attempt has been made, you will probably lose both the money and the goods.0 -
Thanks Chancesare. I have given the buyer the tracking and explained the reason the courier gave me.
I just wondered what is a reasonable time to ask the buyer to wait before I should think about refunding.0 -
I would cross that bridge when you come to it. Most buyers are reasonable if they can see the item is despatched.0

Has the buyer actually mentioned a refund at all yet? If not just keep in touch and don't offer anything. I'm sure when they feel they have waited long enough they will ask.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
