Cheque cleared but cancelled??

Unfortunately we were involved in a car accident in November, the car was deemed a write off by the insurers and a measly payout came.
I paid it into the bank but after 10 days decided it had been “misplaced” so last night I phoned and cancelled the cheque to get it re-issued.
This morning the funds had arrived in my bank account.
What a down right palava..
My question is now the funds have cleared into my account, can they take them back out?

Phone again and say you do not need the cheque re-issued. Easy!Purple_kitten wrote: »What a down right palava..
That palaver is of your own making.Purple_kitten wrote: »My question is now the funds have cleared into my account, can they take them back out?
Why would they? Unless you intend to bank the second cheque as well. That would be fraud.0 -

Yes and I didn't deny that, but quite frankly this is supposed to be a friendly forum, and thought I would ask as I wasn't sure!0 -
I imagine that they were too late to cancel the original cheque, as it had already been presented to their bank.
Wait until the seventh working day after it was paid in, and if it's still there by then, then the money will be yours to keep and you won'r need to get the cheque re-issued.0 -
Thanks for the help rb10, will do.0

Supposed to be, isn't. Just be glad you're not unemployed, they get a right kickin from some of the regulars here.
As to cheques, they're a nightmare! I would really advise against using them for anything if it can be avoided. Roll on 2018!:D0
