Scottish Power Price Increase
Options
Hi All,
I switched to Scottish power after moving into my new home, the house was originally with EDF however they refused to offer me their "new customer" perks because the previous tennant was with them, which I didnt like so I changed.
I am currently on Online Energy Saver 11 (No Standing Charge) paying by direct debit.
The switch completed a few weeks ago and today I got an email regarding a price inrease they have already made:
"Customers on standard prices will notice an average gas increase of 2%* and an average electricity increase of 8.9%**. However, this will vary depending on where you live and how much energy you use. This change came into effect on 25th November 2010".
My first question is that even though this is the first contact they have made with me, they say the new prices came into effect last month, thus, can they charge me the new prices for energy I have used since then?
Also, at the bottom of the email there is a footnote saying:
"You have the right to end your contract and have 20 working days from receipt of this letter to do so. If you do that, and the transfer of supplier process begins no later than 15 working days after you inform us, the new prices will not apply. Changes to gas prices and the gas primary block mean that some gas customers will see a decrease in their annual gas bill."
Would I be right in assuming that this means even though I have just switched I can go compare other products and switch again to a cheaper one (if it exists) and as an added bonus take another Cashback reward for the switch, or even head back to EDF with their "£100 new customer" offer?
As for my new pricing could anyone tell me where I find the most up-to-date tarrifs that I am paying? I've noticed Scottish Power seem to not like to tell you in a straight up manner.
Thanks, Scott

Hi gxc - Yes. You can start the switch process immediately, but don't forget that the offer to hold your old prices till the Switch completes, relies on you informing them that you reject the new prices contract and are Switching, within 20 days of receipt of the letter you had about the new prices.
So far as Switch sites are concerned, I always start with "switchwithwhich" who not only give the prices from all the suppliers, but will also list all the fine details alongside the tariff details of your present supplier0 -

Details of the latest Scottish Power prices are all displayed on their website.
However, a comparison site will compare all the various options from all the suppliers and I think they've all got the latest prices included. Choose any from the list Martin suggests; if you use a couple and get the same result it's probably correct. Afaik, they all offer the breakdown of the costs they have come up with i.e. the tariff details."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
Thanks for the clarification, I guess thats not too bad new's, I can get onto that tomorrow and the last lot of cashback + this cash back essentially means 2 months free energy =]0

Bear in mind that there are exit penalties for leaving your current deal early.0
