Funny enough ive been discussing this very situation with people on here.. don't take those values face value either, companies that publish their prices also negotiate for business ie. if your Joes Burgers and have 80 outlets sure 75.00 might be what they charge but if you sign up all 80 outlets the cost might go down to 50 or 40 see what i mean

To be fair the MS company still need to do their own work and pay their own staff. It's not just our fees involved. There may be some general analysis of the national results to be done and thats another cost factor. They dont just give results for our individual assignments, they look for trends and should be suggesting and briefing solutions as well.

If anyone does want to start their own company at better rates, please please let me know.

Could be the Mystery Shopping Co-Operative!

But then you get economies of scale with the briefs, etc so it's worthwhile to discount.

My proper job is working for the tax office in the PAYE/SA dept so am pleased to help anyone.

Thank you my dear! I'm going to send you a PM!
  • Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand......for a car dealership they charge £175 plus VAT and for a telephone call they charge £55 plus VAT.

Are we getting ripped off or what?!

Looking into starting up on my own now. This is rediculous. Cut out the middleman. We're getting robbed.

Interesting.... which website did you say this was?!
  • Yes with the ESA ones that is fine I don't eat them but with the Gap ones or TNS ones what happens?

Ah, the can of worms is being pryed open again! I would personally argue TNS - no tax on reimbursement, GAP burger/chicken - no tax, GAP pizza - tax, computer game = tax.

Others disagree and I'm coming to the conclusion that HMRC don't really know either. These tax rules were not dreamed up with Msing in mind!

Been thinking about doing that myself but my lack of spare time keeps stopping me!

Surely if you pay your shoppers better you wouldn't have as many jobs being released at the last minute and would therefore be more reliable and providing a better service?

As long as you only had decent proven shoppers, who would keep up the standards
