Just How Little Do You Have To Live On Each Month?

  • Around £150 on average, in the cold months, £200 in the summer. Need to get food, and any trips/cinema with my DS etc out of that. Will become double as and when my OH moves in (when she's working again).

It's really interesting reading what other people live on, isn't it? And a good reminder that we (myself and oh) probably waste quite a lot of money each month...!

We currently have approx £2k per month of 'spare' money after paying all bills, food, cable etc.... of which we always save approx £1k. However, the spare money total will drop by £800 per month when our little boy starts nursery next month!

I actually feel really lucky to be this well off, but working in London with lots of very, very well paid people i'm also reminded that our spending money would seem mere peanuts to some...

I have between £0 and £200 disposable income every month depending on how many unsociable hours I work! I obviously try to save as much as possible from the good months in case of emergencies in the bad months. Luckily there's just me and some very cheap to keep pets so I can live frugally.

I have about £460 each month after all regular spends ie rent, council tax, internet, phone, glasses, lenses, haircut, lovefilm, £200 savings etc are off. I also budget £50/60 a month for food seperately and keep it in a seperate purse. So currently this is my spends budget. It's a lot and hasn't always been like this but I got a new job and a big payrise this year. Planning to put another £100 away each month for hols from Jan as well and the rest goes on socialising/hobbies etc X

There's just the two of us and a cat, and we have about £300 a month left for food, petrol, any unexpected expenses. That is also for any personal spends we may have. That's after all bills, mortgage etc.

After mortgage, bills, food etc, my wife and I have about £1200 disposable income leftover every month. Half goes straight into savings and £300 each to spend as we like (cigs, nights out, presents, lunches, haircuts etc)
