New Website Help....

Hi all,

I am looking to create a new website for my parents who run a property management company in Spain.

They are keyholders of many peoples's properties which are used as holiday homes and rented out throughout the year. They also provide cleaning services for the properties and generally look after the day to day jobs that need doing.

The website would advertise the properties to people who wanted to rent them for holidays and also offer my parents service to landlords who needed their property to be looked after.

Unfortunately although i am reasonably PC literate I have never built a website of my own.

I am therefore looking for guidance on the best software to use (free if poss!) as well as tips for making sure I can get as much traffic as possible going through the site.

I would also like to explore the possibilty of gaining income from the site through affiliate marketing through things such as Google Adsense.

Any advice / guidance would be gratefully recieved....

Cheers

its something that I have setup on my server before and its really easy. I was going to set up a local one for houses in my area but other things took over and i never found the time its easy to use
  • google adsense is easy you simply paste a bit of code and google do the rest

i bring about £20 a month from adsense not much but a bit of pocket money
the large affiliate networks like buy.at and affiliate window will inspect your site and check your traffic before taking you on board.
I had a broadband site and it was fully affiliated with orange bt etc but because my turnover was small they pulled my links.
i have a mobile affilate site that pulls in around £40 a month www.monkeyphones.co.uk
its all fairly easy i would stay away from "google adwords" if your new to marketing & and any company that contacts you to offer SEO
  • did you get anywhere with the website
  • Posted this about a week ago... maybe of use to you...
Now I am quite a techie person in some respects, but have only ever been a computer "user" rather than knowing the ins and outs of how they work and programming.

Just under 2 weeks ago, knowing pretty much nothing about creating a website, I set about setting one up.

My first step was to decide on a domain name... the is the www bit that you site will be addressed to. There are loads of sites where you can check if the name you are thinking of is available to buy... and these site vary greatly in price. You will also need to have your domain hosted - this is the server space that stores your content and makes it available 24/7. After a bit of Googling I came across good feedback of a UK based company called www.tsohost.com - (this is not an affiliate link!) Their basic package seemed to be just what I was looking for so I began going through the checkout when I spotted an "offer code" box (Ding went the lightbulb!) did a quick google again and located an old code for £35 of their £50 a year premium package... making it cheaper than the basic and also qualifying the domain name that I was registering through them to be free! Bargain. Transaction complete!

TsoHost have a quick install button to install wordpress (a blogging package) onto your webspace so I went through and did that... and within a few minutes I had an intuitive website interface to work with.

After a few days of going through "templates" for wordpress I eventually came across something I liked that functioned in the way I needed. It's called Flexibility 3 (free template).

Have been working on content and monetising since then, and tweaks here and there. I'm now pretty happy with my first efforts :T

I'm not allowed to post a link in here to my website but if you want to take a look the details are in my profile!

    Hope this helps
