Had a price to install central heating in my house and after i picked myself up off the floor,i got to thinking "what's to stop me doing it myself"?Well that's the question really.Been in the building trade all my life and plumbed in plenty of kitchens and bathrooms but never tackled a full heating system. With all the new laws regarding gas installations, where do i stand?

Hi Woody
Like you I'm a woodbutcher. I think you will be ok with all the water pipes etc and witha little thought and care there should be no problem. You must have a mate who can put your boiler in last thing for less than the quote you have?
Plumbings easy after you have tried to set out a flight of stairs!!!!!!!The measure of love is love without measure0 -
Hi Wood.,.........wouldn't you have to get it signed off by a Corgi man.
If you've done bathrooms etc, the rads and pipework should be easy enough.
My brother is an electrcian and often called in by plumbers to do that side of the project.
We did our own central heating system, and there were times when we wish we had chosen a combi system.
Otherwise a learning process. which by the sounds of it, you should be able to cope.0 -
Thanks.
I know i am capable of doing the system myself, just not sure where i stand legally or what system to go with.I currently have an immersion heater that is well past it's sell by date.I think i will go with a combi boiler option. Are there any sites or even books i could look at to give me some pointers.I believe you need to work out the thermal values for each room?Radiator sizes and boiler output.0 -

Something here. Just type into google a sentence, it should come up with a starter. For example ....radiator sizes........http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&q=radiator+sizes0 -
I've installed a combi boiler for a friend. We had it checked out by a Corgi friend of his who commented on it being a tidy job. It was pretty easy TBH.Happy chappy0

Update:
My mate Mark is in the process of having central heating fitted by a friend of his and while visiting today i got talking to the plumber and the upshot is that he has offered to do my central heating for me in return for me doing him some fitted wardrobes in his new loft conversion.Result;i would rather spend a week doing joinery than one day plumbing,so everyone is happy.
Mate Mark bought his boiler and rads etc from B&Q with the aid of a load of 10% off vouchers. The question is,are B&Q competetive pricewise,or can i do better going somewhere else?I also have access to 10% off vouchers and can get all the stuff i need for about a £1000.The boiler he got is a Ravenheat which the plumber said are not the best but not the worst.
Any help/suggestions would be welcome.0
