Letter back from HSBC stating they are busy and to wait - Now what?

Hi All,

I wrote off 9 weeks ago to HSBC about PPI that I paid on a couple of loans starting in 2005.

They replied with a letter dated the end of November, basically saying that they had recieved my letter (Well I should hope so, it was delivered the day after I sent it by special delivery!) and that they were very busy and were looking into it.

What do I do now? Do I wait for another letter? I feel that 8 weeks is more than long enough to at least start looking into the real meat of the issue, yet it feels as though they have barely started the whole process and all I have is a "Thanks for contacting us" type letter from the complaints department after 8 weeks!

Should I threaten to go to the Ombudsman/just go to the Ombudsman? I don't really know what to do, I was at least expecting a "No chance of getting your money go away" type letter or a "Your claim is on hold because we're trying to pull a fast one through the courts" type letter but at the moment I feel as though they're just wasting time!

Any ideas?

    Hi and welcome

Once the 8 weeks have passed, and if you've heard nothing in that time, your entitled to make your complaint to the FOS.

I would give them a ring and ask when you should be receiving a letter in regards of your reclaims.

You can of course if you want to - write to them and give them a timescale of your own, make them aware if you hear nothing by a date you choose, you will continue your cases via FOS, good luck.
The one and only "Dizzy Di" :D
  • Thanks for your advice, I will give them a call and if they try and fob me off with no date, I will let them know a date I want a proper response by.

I guess then I will head to the ombudsman if needs be if it goes over that.

    Right - More waiting!

Just a warning, you'll turn a couple of months wait to a probable 12 month wait.
  • I too complained to HSBC some time back and at 8 weeks got the letter asking for more time. They asked till the 14th december which is obviously today so now waiting for a further letter no doubt asking for more time

Well, 8 months down, after waiting for the inevitable heel dragging after the judicial review, I finally get a letter the other day, not dated to the day, only June, but confirming this should all be sorted out by the end of the month! I must admit i had almost forgotten about the whole thing but look forward to seeing what the outcome is. Good luck to everyone else in the same boat as me!

Yep, sorted by the end of the month.......

Oh, bar the 8 weeks to calculate the amount and pay the claim that the FOS allow them

    :(
