bought flights with a credit card

Hey there. A friend of mine was booking flights online from canada to the uk. The first one he put in was for 10 days but the website said there was an error so he started it over but this time decided to put in a different return date and stay longer. The second set of flights went through and there was no error message but when he checked both sets of flights had gone through and he got confirmation for both. He has called the company and they have said they will call back tomorrow. If they don't cancel one of them is there any chance he can get the money back going through the credit card company? The card is with visa. Does anyone have any info on what we could do? thanks :)

It was an error in their system, so they are responsible for the consequences of that error. I've had it happen a few times and in all cases the money has been refunded in full. If the company the flights were bought through are unwilling to help, contact the credit card company and make a claim/chargeback, though I doubt it will come to that. Most companies have a cooldown period for purchases anyway, during which they will issue a refund with no strings attached, though this can be as little as 24 hours from purchase (Easyjet for instance).

Sounds like they didn't clear their shopping cart before adding the 2nd flight. The checkout process may have failed, but the cart's contents would normally get preserved - that's one of the uses cookies have.

The same thing happened to me some time back, and I was refunded one of the flights. And it was Ryan Air no doubt! If they will do it I would say any airline would do it.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

Tell him to call the airline: immediately. No use waiting for the company to call back the next day -- by then the period that the airline allows for error correction will have expired.

It would also not do any harm to let the credit card company know what is going on.
