My friend has had her email contacts address book lifted and her friends are getting some unsavoury emails. Can someone have a look with some suggestions to clean her pooter up. I posted aliEnRIK's procedure to her and she sent this back as the first part of it.

Does she need to do a full scan?

I note a registry key is/was infected

From the above, probably yes. Mywebsearch is not known for stealing user data (the "business model" is getting clicks onto their search engine, IIRC).

Incidentally, it would be worth checking what options she has to access her email - I've seen a few instances where people think that their PC is infected, only to discover that someone has broken into their online webmail account and taken contact details via the webmail server, rather than going anywhere near their PC...

I would also suggest that Malwarebytes is updated - Your version of definitions is 5307 whereas the current version is 5519.

Fire up Malware bytes - update tab - check for updates.

Rescan, full scan.

Reluctant_spender thanks for your reply - I know it's been sometime since posting the Malawarebytes log file but the HJT log file is up to date. I'm finding it very hard to get her to reply promptly as she's in hospital and it was a bit of an effort to get this from her - is there anything to worry about in the HJT file.

There is nothing obvious within the log that is malware related however there are a number of items I would remove that may well assist start up speed.

Also I see nortons is installed this can cause speed issues.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.

I would then reboot the computer and post another log along with an updated Malwarebytes scan log.
