How frustrating! barclaycard

Hi all,

I'm hoping I'll get more sense out of you clever peeps than the annoying barclaycard lot! I recently opened an account on 6th nov and made a BT from another credit card, fine so far. I then received my new card along with revised t&cs saying from 26th nov that all BTs include transfers to a current account. I checked the website and it said the same. I then phoned after 26th nov and asked to make a BT and was told this offer didn't apply, ichecked the paperworkand then phoned back this week confused as it clearly states barclaycard can make a transfer to your current account. I got the same stroppy cust serv rep giving me a load of excuses and that i wasn't eligible. After a lengthy call I was then told no one from barclaycard was eligible as they stopped offering this from nov?! And then that the revised t&cs were sent by mistake, andthat the info I'd received and the info on the website was wrong and not up to date, only cust serv has the most up to date info. I was also told that i couldn't speak to a supervisor as they'd tell me the same. Am I missing something? Have I got this completely wrong? I do doubt myself sometimes but I can't see what I'm missing!

Thanks if anyone has the chance to read my waffle and can answer this!

Ali

Whether they do offer the facility or not, at the end of the day, all credit card companies can restrict certain customers from using certain features/benefits of the card.

For instances a card may offer the chance to do a balance transfer at either 0% or the standard rate, but as someone posted here recently they weren't allow to do so on their card.

Another example cash advances (such as withdrawals from a cash machine), some customers find that they aren't allowed to do this, even if the card offers this facility.

These cards in the link below offer a transfer to a bank account, you normally pay a 4% fee on top, but then have xx amount of months to pay it back at 0% interest.

Other cards allow it but at the standard APR rate.

Something similar happened with First Direct. My card came with a credit agreement which did not match their current offer (which I was not eligible for because I had closed my previous account within the six months they stipulate) It contained details of the old FD offer. I wanted to take advantage of this old offer, however, and on contacting FD was told (like you) that it simply did not apply. I wangled by writing 'an enquiry' via secure message that it did indeed seem that a offer had been made, so what were FD going to do to 'resolve' this? They thought about it a while and finally indicated they would honour the letter sent out.

I'd say that was a pretty standard response from a responsible organisation and had also found (from writing to Barclaycard myself to query something previously) that they would be conciliatory in light the customer having something in 'black and white' that stands in contradiction to their website info. (etc)

Maybe it is worth a try writing to them about this but don't rely on your points automatically being accepted.

  • Thank you, this is really helpful. It's caused us a couple of problems financially if I was being honest so would really like to take it further.

Rather than bu66ering about making silly complaints that won't do anything to solve your financial problems, why not spend your time constructively trying to sort the issue out in a different way?

its not a right to have credit, or for them to accept bt's. Your complaint wont go anywhere
  • When I said take it further I meant query the balance transfer again, not complain. But thanks for your support
