Paid cash into paying in machine without enclosing slip...Big Oops?

Just signed up to Santander and was not told anything about enclosing a paying in slip with cash, either by the manager or the guy standing in front of me, however a quick google says I should have.

I have printed receipts of the transaction, is there a chance I will lose the cash or do they have other means of identifying where it came from?

I am not comfortable with paying money into a machine, what happens if I specify the incorrect amount on the machine?

Comments

  • did you do it through the cashpoint or a deposit slot? if the former I'd say you have a chance (except that you have said you bank with santander, in which case anything could happen)

ring the bank now, and let them know, they may be able to track it for you

    good luck

I did it through a machine in the branch which had a slot for depositing cash in it. The manager stood there and watched me as I put the cash in the envelope, sealed it and pushed it in the machine, and she said nothing.

thats santander for you ...do you know his name, at least you have a witness. Did you have to put your cashpoint card in, in which case it will be logged to your card, and so your account.

I don't, but I have two witnesses - firstly, the cashier who I gave my money to initially as I wanted to pay over the counter not into the machine - she would remember £2000 in £20 notes sitting on her counter, I was one of the last customers in there today.

Obviously the manager was the other.

I did have to put my card in yes, and I received a receipt from the machine as well with the figure on it.
  • fingers crossed then me duck, I'm sure it'll be ok

Do you think I should still speak to them?
  • To deposit cash, you must first log into the ATM with your card and pin. Then you press ‘cash deposit’, the machine asks you “how much?” and you press “£ 100”. Then the machine spits out an envelope to put the cash in, then you deposit that envelope into the ATM. (Haven’t done it for quite a while, so I can’t remember what comes first: envelope or typing in the sum.)

The ATM also gives a receipt about the transaction.

Should there be a discrepancy, between what you said you deposited and what the two staff members find in the morning,
then the bank will contact you.

The bank knows exactly, who has deposited that envelope and how much money it is supposed to be.

The DATM wont balance if youve done it incorrectly.

Abbey/ Santander are currently in the process of replacing their DATM technology with that of Alliance and Leicesters, which does not require envelopes to deposit cash and cheques
