Oil-filled radiator £29.90@lidl

got one today.

price is good and am trying it now. is it normal for it to sound like a frying pan for the first 10-15 mins?

ps. there're 2 spots chipped away, tiny spots(like pin hole) can I use clear nail vanish to seal it (to prevent rusting)?

No..take it back. They should be very quiet and certainly no chips.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Got 2 of these for my father when his boiler gave up the ghost last December and they are excellent. Not sure it's a frying pan noise but they do sort of 'click' for a while when first turned on but then stop when up to temp (metal expanding? No idea). Still working fine now but if you are worried, get it back asap - lidl are great at exchanging stuff

perhaps MilicentBystander is right, it maybe more a click click click noise. It is quiet when temp set is reached. Since this was the second last of the pallet at my local, don't think I can exchange another one anyway it is good value for a 2kW radiator.

    thx pals.

I've recently bought one of these, and from what I remember it just made the funny noise the first time it was switched on for a short time as all the oil settled down to where it was meant to be. It's now v quiet.
    Hope is not a strategy.

Is it expensive to run one of these? We could do with something in our conservatory and the electric heater costs a bomb! Stupidly we didn't have readiators put in when it was built. Builders said it was too difficult to run everything from lounge to conservatory. Realised afterwards he probably couldn't be bothered! It definitely needs something in there ready for Christmas.

I have had one of these I got it from B&Q a couple of years ago for about £40 when our boiler broke down, they are excellent, throw out a lot of heat and a lot cheaper to run than standard electric heaters.

We have no radiators in the kitchen and use it it there over the winter, I watch what we spend on electric but am never too concerned about switching the heater on when it gets really cold.

If it's any consolation we had new radiators put in with our conservatory extension and it never goes more than luke warm, something to do with being run off an extension pipe!!!!

We have oil filled radiator in conservatory which we use over Christmas etc, means you can use the room. Not sure of running costs though.

    Ours makes cackling sound sometimes.

I had exact same problem, realised after putting up with it for a few weeks that the plumber who came to install it had turned my central heating pump down to lowest setting. wacked it up and now I have a lovely hot radiator in the conservatory. Might be worth taking a look and seeing if it fixes the problem :)
