I thought that bank charges had been stopped
I have just had a letter from barclays charging me £30 for going over my overdraft limit by more than £5 is this still legal?

its certainly legal - however as its a penalty charge its unlawful
if you have been a good customer call them and ask them nicely to remove it

As oldfella says, there is a difference between illegal and unlawful. In general terms, unlawful relates to civil law and illegal generally concerns criminal law.
In the case of bank charges, we are talking unlawful.0
