Do any of you students..especially post-grad..use Endnote software??
My uni recommends getting it, but the price is crazy. The cheapest i can find is 68 quid, after the student athens discount has been deducted.
I'm a bit hestitant to get software on ebay too.
I can't afford to lay out this sort of money unless its something i really cant live without!
thanks

i got a copy on my 'work' pc for uni free (i'm a postgrad). have you tried asking computer services wherever you are? they might have a site license, and you usually install it on your own computer for about £10.
well worth getting though - imagine 400 references in a thesis by hand!:happyhear0 -
We use reference manager which is like endnote but I like it more. All post-grads can download it for free from the uni software bit. We can download endnote as well I think.
Are you sure you cannot do the same?0 -
thanks...
but, no.... my uni (University of London, IoE), don't offer cheap licenses, sadly. They just told me about the athens discount, on the main Endnote sales site. I'm doing an MA dissertation and dread to think about the references.
Have you found Endnote useful in other aspects too...like general note-taking etc???
thanks0 -
i make sure i download the abstracts and keywords with the citation, and now i have a library of 500-600 papers. the actual print outs are all filed away and i search endnote on topics when i can't remember the authors. do you have any 'consumables' in a grant which you could use to pay for it, or maybe ask your supervisor? I was told i had to use endnote/reference manager for a report at the end of my first year, so some unis really push it..... you can probably try the month's free trial and see what you think first:happyhear0

If you are refrencing tons then you probably need it, if not then you can get away with it surely. I should think you should be able to buy a copy from uni whilst you are there for not very much at all, but you say they dont, strange.
Is it on your uni network then???:beer:0 -
it looks like they have endnote 7 on uni computers?

could you use of them rather than buying it yourself?
(it is very odd that they have it on all networked computers but don't sell it cheaply....):happyhear0 -
yeah..it's a pain..i can use it on the uni computers, but, obviously, i need it on my home pc mostly. Altho i can access the uni server from home thro the portal, access is limited and doesn't include Endnote ( nor SPSS).
Not helpful..
but you guys have been very supportive..many thanks to all.0 -
What level postgrad? You could probably cope with out for masters, but I found endnote invaluable for my doctorate.
An older version would probably surfice...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
I saw your thread and thought it might be relevant to me in the future when I start writing up my report... so I did a search on google and found this link on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reference_management_software
There's a list of softwares, including the free ones. Have a go at them and let us know which one is as good (or better) than EndNote?
I'm not willing to fork out 68quid for EndNote as well...0 -
aye I was also looking into this. I'm currently having a look at the free version of bibliographix.. I'll compare it to endnote when I'm next in uni.. although it looks like it will serve my purposes when I work it out.0
