Hansgrohe Raindance Showers

Hi

I am in the process of creating an ensuite shower and have quite ambitions plans!

I have quite a large area for the shower and I would love to turn it into a wet room with one of those ceiling rain showers and I think the Hansgrohe RainDance showers would be perfect.

I have a few questions though:

- This shower is huge and obviously uses a lot of water. I saw on another thread that you can only get 6/7 mins worth of shower before the hot water runs out... Can these showers be operated electrically rather than via the hot water tank? I have just had a new CH put in last year so there is no way I am getting a bigger tank.

- This shower costs in the region of £2000. I have been looking for something similar but cheaper and it's proving almost impossible!

I only seem to find ones where the shower head drops down from the ceiling but nothing quite the Hansgrohe model... Has anyone seen showers such as the Raindance but from a different brand/ cheaper?

Help!

:)

Which one do you mean? There are about twenty Raindance showers on their site ranging from a criminal 36 litres per min down to a respectable 9 litres per min. Do you have details of your hot water system/boiler as this could make quite a difference as to which to choose? You have little chance of getting 9 litres per min from an electric shower, but I expect it would work OK with a higher power electric shower. I would forget the 36 litres per minute one for gas or electric purely on the grounds of running cost.

I know it is all down to personal choice, but having used these in hotels, I don't like them. With an angled shower head, you can wet your body without wetting your head, but with these you have to wet your head all the time.
Sorry if I sound negative, but I guess you wanted opinions... Brian.

First issue to address is where is this wetroom to be situated? If above the ground fllor and on a suspended timber floor then thats the first design change to make. Wetrooms and timber floors don't work.

    What a load of tosh

    Tuff 2 tray

    Hurringbone joists

25mm plywood with more timber braces at all joints

Tank walls and floor with Dura Ci or Homelux tanking membrane

We have done approx 40 wetrooms in Edinburgh tenements with NO FAILURES

If it fails its down to a bodged install or a daft DIY drilling through the membrane

Hansgrohe stuff is quite restrictive anyway , Most of there shower valves with not flow more than 20litres per minute, regardless of what there heads can flow

There Eco range have restrictors fitted so can be fitted with combi systems

  • I've heard that restrictors can damage the boiler. Is this right?

It's probably worth considering when installing a shower that eventually we might all be on water meters.

    Hope
  • I have to say I didn't think my post would generate so much discussion lol - thank you to all of you who offered your thoughts.

I am renovating a really nice house and this showers was supposed to be a 'wow' factor.

I was looking at the Raindance Raimaker which is HUGE and looks Fanstastic. However, I don't want to have an amazing shower that I can only use for 2mins before the water gets cold.

I am not a plumber so sorry if I sound stupid... even if this shower is fit so it heats the water electrically, I will still have a poor performance due to the limit in the amount of water this system can flow?

I also noticed this one which seems smaller (but still expensive) Hansgrohe Raindance Royale AIR Classic Plate 35cm overhead shower. Would this one give me the same problems?

I have a boiler but it's not combi. The water tank is quite big and was installed last year so it's brand new... tried to look for the size of it but couldn't see anything.

B........ks - its not tosh in the context of this thread which is about OP DIYing it. Wetroom + timber floors + DIY jobby = failure.

Ro get anything like a half reasonable shower out of one of these monsters you need a prodigious flow rate. If your cylinder and CW supplies aren't man enough you'll be disappointed and you'll have wasted your money.

  • My experiences of this type of shower have been wholely underwhelming. They may look posh and classy but they're expensive and very impractical. Give me an ordinary moveable shower head any day.
