  • I would rather get a gift that had been made just for me. It would have taken time and thought. Much better than a 3 for 2 in a high street shop, same every year, throw it in the basket, pay on card, total thought and effort 8 seconds. Most of it ends up in the bin as it's all packaging .
Sew it, knit it, glue it, reuse it , don't buy it
  • I've made fudge and chocolates for my family this year. My first attempt and I'll definitely be giving it another go next year! I have yet to use my candy floss maker to make a HUGE bag of candy floss for my sister as she loves it! I'll be doing that on Christmas Eve so it looks ok still the next day!

I did the usual snowman soups for the teachers at school. somehow managed to use all 14 lol. each childs teacher, their TA's, the head master, deputy head, SENCo, caretaker and office staff lol. It was supposed to be teachers & TA's only but everyone else saw them & wanted one. At least they were well received.
I love the look of the sugar scrub though, might have to borrow that idea for next year :)

I am very tempted to make the sugarscrub I have to say... might have to pop out and see if I can find some jars close to home to save driving 20+ miles to get them... *sigh*
I'm also going to make cindertoffee, red onion marmelade (made 2 batches already and everyone who's been by have scoffed it before I had a chance to think about giving them a jar as a pressie lol!), brownies and fudge and ginger biscuits :)

Thank goodness my family don't react in the way Saucepot did I would be disappointed with myself for raising children who are so rude.
    This year so far!!...
    12 appliqued fleece blankets
    3pr christmas pj bottoms
    1 Gruffalo outfit
    2 Crayon rolls
    Snowman Soups, lost count
    Hand painted cups
    Dolls changing bag
    Doll cot bedding
    10 Memory wire bracelets

Probably lots more but can't remember at the moment.

I have always wanted to write a childrens book, ages 2-4 so more a picture book. My DIL is an amazingly talented girl and has offered to illustrate it. I have my title and theme in my head so hope to get it done so next year so that each of my grandchildren can have a copy, just printed by the on line companies Blurb I think. It is based on a game my husband and I played with each of our 4 children, especially Saturday/Sunday mornings snuggled up in bed to keep warm.

If anyone makes me a present they will get the reply "You cheapskate b*stard, are there no shops where you live?"

True Saucepot, I would throw anybodys homespun efforts straight in the bin.

Don't get mixed up with Homemade and handmade, there can be a huge difference.

  • I have made some hampers for the adult relations this year containing a selection of jams pickled onions and chutneys made in the summer. I also put a bottle of wine in (not homeade) and a few other bits. When my sister and I met up to exchange gifts she said she was on an economy drive and had made all the presents for us. Though she had heard about my jam making sessions and didnt give me jam.
