Electric bill discrepency from npower
Options
Hi
I apologise in advance if this post sounds naive and if it has been covered in other threads by others but I'd really appreciate some suggestions about my electric bill.
I have just been sent a bill based on accurate reading that I provided. The first thing I noticed was that npower has been charging me more than the rates they offered in my contract. I spoke to a customer service person and she asked me to send them a copy of my contract and they will look into it.
I then calculated what I should have been charged and what they have charged me instead and it appears that there is around £50 overcharge based on their rates.
Through this calculation, I came to notice something I had not thought of before. I noticed that my day units are far greater than my night units. For example, I seem to have used 1350 kWh units during the day, and only 504 during the night. Now obviously it depends what times the night begins, but both myself and my wife are out from 7am until 6pm and the only electrical appliance is a fridge. This hardly explains why my day usage is over 2.5 times higher.
Does the meter run faster during the day? I know it's not likely to but I just want to make sure.
Any explanation will be much appreciated.

Ah, the old day and night rate swapped issue. We had the same and ended up going through everything with nPower to get it right. How it works it that you take a meter reading. An hour later you take a second reading and this confirms which of the 2 rates changes. nPower will then use this to check which way round the 2 rates go. Contact customer services to go through this.0

Thanks.
I just found out that the night rate doesn't start until 12 midnight and ends 7am!
So, it's pretty useless but nonetheless.0 -
The question you should be asking is should I be on an Economy 7 tarriff?
The cheaper night rate is offset by a more expensive day rate, if you are using little electricity during the night rate you are probably paying too much. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
To be honest I really don't understand all the different tarrifs. They have far too many apparently just to confuse the customer into going with whatever.0
