tyre grip spray - liquid snow tyre

In the last cold, icy and snowy snap did anyone try the products that supposed help the tyres grip temporarily if you are stuck on a snowy, icy patch. We had to leave the car at the bottom of our road several times.
The two most obvious makes you can see the links to here:

I think the difference in price is just sizing.
I have read one good review and one bad. You cannot get this at Halfords either becuase its a specialist product they dont stock or because they dont think its anygood.
Thanks
Hilary

    Waste of time and money.....

The point of winter tyre's is they don't lose flexibiliy in cold conditions and can therefore clear themselves of snow.

If even Halfrauds think it's a con, I think that says a lot, especially given their range of pointless oil and fuel additives.

I wonder if it's made by the same people who sell the photoblocker number plate spray?

I've seen it used, and it does help. Depends how bad the ice/snow is, and why you're slipping. It makes the tyres "sticky" so if you have a short stretch you can't negotiate, it gives you a much better chance. It wears off very quickly though.

    I think

    is a fair summary.

"Why do you say snake oil - have you tried it?"

    And someone else said:

Halfords didnt say it was a con, I simply wondered if it is as they dont stock it! But it may just be too much of a niche product on which they can make an insignificant profit.

Any more comments from anyone who has tried it please?

Actually oil should make the rubber on the tyres softer which is how winter tyres are meant to be. Hmmm :)
