I thought any UK number starting with 01, 02 and 03 are free for an hour if on anytime plan. But I got charged for a call to
01 534877595, 5 minutes call charged £0.50
Is this right ?

Yes all except those calls only UK calls count and the Channel Islands are not part of the UK. Lucky it was only 5 minutes and not nearly an hour. Use 18185 for those calls.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Isn't their adverstisement confusing, they say Anytime plan
"Means calls to numbers starting with 01, 02 or 03, made at any time for up to an hour. You can hang up before 1 hour and redial to avoid charge"0 -
But they also say
"* Unlimited UK landline calls are for up to an hour to numbers beginning 01, 02 & 03, after which pence-per-minute rates apply. You can hang up and redial before the end to avoid charges. There are exceptions like calls to the Channel Islands. See our terms and conditions for details"0 -

That's only in the fine prints. Fine prints should not be used to hide information0 -
BT have a monopoly on " small print ".
With regard to calls to the Channel Islands, in February 2008 I added a rule to my Orchid low cost router program routing calls to 01534 and 01481 STD codes via 18185 at all times because BT announced it was excluding such calls from its calls plans.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Don't you believe it! They're good at it (they've been in business a long time) but they're by no means alone.
I dumped them a couple of years ago, I now get calls to many overseas countries included in my inclusive minutes, saved a fortune and I now deal with an honest company without call centres in some distant place.
No need for the convoluted 18185 rigmarole.0 -

I'm not a BT fan, but it isn't possible for every company to put every bit of information in the headlines.
It's simply not possible.
99.8% of people who don't make make calls to the channel islands would not want this in the headlines0 -
