Omg how many different digital camera is there ?????
I need someone in the knows help on this one, need to buy a digital camera for a xmas present....
Budget is around £50-60. Its mainly for taking clear photos of the kids when they are out and about.
Would prefer a recharable battery and video facility with sound.
There is so many to choose from and i'm not very technical.
Can anyone recommend which make etc to go for

stay away from teh cheap fuji's they suck
if i were to go and get a cheap one now i would look for a cannon or a sony cybershot0 -
From what I have read, the Canon A480 Powershot is a cracking little camera
Has movie with sound. Not 100% sure of rechargable battery. I think this runs off 2 X AA's. But you can always get a recharge set for it, with the good high power AA batteries
If you are looking at things as well, the only bit of advice I would say, is forget the mega pixel count. With the sensor size in point and shoot cameras, anything really over 8mp is not worth paying specifically forThere are 10 kinds of people that understand binary

however no rechargeable batteries.. you won't get them in very cheap cameras
For 66 quid you could get one with rechargable batteries and 4x optical zoom - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5593684/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CPhotography%7C14419436/c_2/3%7C15701379%7CDigital+cameras+and+packages%7C14419441/c_3/4%7Ccat_14419441%7CDigital+cameras%7C14419442.htm#pdpFullProductInformation0 -
Thanks for your help guys... the Argos Canon camera look good buys, just had a bad experience with Argos after care before.
I have also seen this Sony Camera on Marks & Spencer website
http://www.marksandspencer.com/Sony-Cyber-shot-DSC-S930P-Digital-Camera/dp/B00263Q1K2
do you think this is a good buy ? The 2 year guarantee is swaying me0 -
Personally, i'd still get the Canon
* Rechargable batteries (the sony uses AAs)
* Uses SD memory cards - industry standard (Sony uses propriatary Sony memory cards)
The only camera i've ever had that broke was through my own fault getting it rather wet. It was a canon.. it's still useable but the screen is a bit odd. Great photos though
You'll still get 12 months protection from Argos through normal customer rights0 -
Check out kodak zi8 -perfect for what you say -£75 +sd card -under £10 for 8GB - just watch some video clips and then look at a photo album. Zi8 takes reasonable stills, too.
You may get a z1x for ~£50 , even comes with AA rechargables charger,HD cables -just need an sd card.0 -
Canon/Nikon/Pentax/Panasonic- predominately use rechargable batteries and SD or CF cards, the cheapest usually to buy.
Sony/Fuji/some Olympus- predominately use XD or Sony cards, which are more expensive. Sony accessories are the most expensive by far for any camera. Above is very general rule only.
Suggest you check out www.dpreview.com- they have a nice function allowing you to compare cameras. Would also recommend checking out Ebay, and buying the model one or two before the current release- you will get much more camera for a cheaper price.
Would definitely recommend rechargable lithium battery, as oppose to AA's- video/zoom and flash will eat AA's.0 -
Thanks for all your advice, decided to go for a Canon in the end and finally decided on this one
