I know theres nothing I can do about it but I think Santanders bank charges are absolutely outrageous...
Last month 2 payments were taken out when there was not enough money in the account... the first was for £30 and put me £2.25 into an unarranged overdraft, the second was for £3.25 putting me a total of £5.50 into unarranged overdraft.
Santander charged me £70 for an unarranged overdraft and a further £25 for each item paid, a shocking total of £120 for being overdrawn one day.
The really annoying this is that the following day a cheque for £100 cleared which would have covered the payments if I had paid it in sooner.
Think this is unnecessarily high charges, Im sure other banks dont charge as much. I used to bank with Natwest and Im sure they offered a £20 'buffer' where you could go into an unarranged o/d without getting penalised.
How much do your banks charge? And do they make you this angry!!!

Better still, LLoydstsb wouldn't charge a penny in fees.
They don't charge if the amount overdrawn is less than a tenner"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100

Is this a one off or have you had the same charges in the past?
If one off, then it may be worth dropping into the local branch, explaining one off and a mistake in thinking the cheque would show up earlier and could they waive it as a gesture of goodwill.
If they say no then I would suggest you vote with your feet as others suggested and change bank.0

OMG That is outrageous. If it is first time i would try and get charges waived as pjcox suggests. My credit card payment was overdue by one day (due to bank hol,Lloyds tsb) i rang them and they waived the charge so worth a try good luck.0

For all the bad press it gets on here, Halifax would have charged you a fiver for your transgression.
Theres a £10 buffer now on current accounts, so the charge would have been £0100% G33K :D:D:D:D0 :D:D:D:D0

Even better.Azrael_1701 wrote: »Theres a £10 buffer now on current accounts, so the charge would have been £0
Assuming of course the OP wasn't already in their arranged overdraft? (they haven't said)0

As your less than £10 Overdrawn or over your overdraft limit santander will refund all your charges, just go into your local branch0

I have had worse from Santander charges. I tried to transfer some money from a Citibank account to Santander. There was not enough money in the Citibank account. Santander charged £25 for a failed transaction and Citibank charged £25 for a failed transaction. No overdraft used. Just £50 for two computers saying NO.
It looks like you can rack up outrageous charges even without going overdrawn.0
