How long does a mortgage offer take?

We are in the process of selling our house. Our solicitors have advised that all they are waiting for is the buyer's mortgage offer. We were advised nearly three weeks ago that this should only take a few days, but so far, we've heard nothing despite our solicitors chasing them. How long should this take?

it seems to vary from lender to lender and depends what backlog if any the lender has. We applied 20th October.. Lender Halifax, Agreement in principle was instant full mortgage offer took about 3 weeks to be fully underwritten, surveys completed etc.

  • For me it took about a month from submitting my application to receiving my offer.
  • Our recent Nationwide mortgage took just under 2 weeks from application to offer.

I've found that when a solicitor says they are chasing it generally just means an e-mail. If you speak to your EA they will make a phone call instead which often gets you a lot more information.
