Combi boiler - problem.

Hi. Can someone please help.
The boiler was working ok this morning, the heating was on and I ran a bath. When I got home an hour ago the heating or hot water wouldn't come on.
The pilot light was light but has now gone out and won''t come back on. I have taken the cover off to look inside and there has been water dripping inside. It seems to be coming from a small screw which I have tightened and it has stopped dripping.
When pressing the ignition to light the pilot light it is not making the usual clicking noise and will not light. The boiler is unusually quiet.
Does any one know what the problem might be.
Thanks.

Sounds like the dripping water may have shorted out a circuit board.
Best get a plumber out mate.0 -
Thanks moob.
Would the power still be on if it was the circuit board. The power light and clock are still on.0 -
Not an expert on boilers but is the system still pressurised?
There is a rough guide here- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/TOPPING_UP_A_COMBI_BOILER.htm
Perhaps the pressure has been released from the system and it will not fire back up until it is re- pressurised?
With the water dripping from the screw the boiler could of lost pressure!
If not Like the previous post says, something electrical could of been damaged.0 -
My combi-boiler does not have a pilot light.
Are you sure that someone has not accidentally switched off the power supply switch to your boiler.
My little one did this to us once when he just about reached the switch and I was very embarrased when B Gas came out , put the switch back on and everything fired up as it should!

The pressure is ok and the power is definately on.
Does anyone know how much circuit boards are to replace if this is the problem.0 -

Hi matphil
Ours did the same about 5 years ago cost us about £125 to get it fixed, £90 for the circuit board, £35 for less than 20 mins work!
Call a plumberYou can't have everything....where would you put it?0 -
Livinginhope - you have just scared me. I have turned the power off and will not touch it again.
Unfortunately I will have to wait til Monday before calling a plumber but thanks for the warning.0 -
Sorry matphil didn't want to scare you,but after what happened to us I wouldn't want to see anyone else go through the same thing, hope you get it sorted.Debt at highest £102k

In the meantime, you could try posting your problem on the newsgroup uk.d-i-y
they're very well informed and you're very likely to get a quick professional reply.
It's worth adding the make and model of your boiler too.0
