  • no - but they can suggest to their head of department that they might need to contact the funding body over the 'mistake' with registering dates and suddenly, things might get done! i'm not advocating legal action (?!?!?), just suggesting the type of pressure that may snap people into action!

when you're stressed towards the end of the phd, you can't see the wood for the trees. hopefully some of us who have been through it can make suggestions on how best to play the game over this. i think a few more things should be tried before just accepting everything as it is.

I would agree with you - if the OP had more time. But it might be their last shot at this. If they can do what you suggest in a very small amount of time, then it might be worth it. But it would be sad if they spent all their time "playing the game", the effort did not work, and they had lost four years of work for nothing.

I was being serious (or at least semi-serious) about suing the uni - I have heard of that happening successfully. But again, time is so short... I would not risk it, if it were me. At least not until after the deadline. Also it could be expensive, which would not be good for someone with no money left.

Hope the OP manages to get finished in time. I still think that is their best shot at getting their PhD.
