EDF & Nectar parting company

Anyone else had a letter this week from EDF to say as from 31 December 2010 they will stop issuing nectar point? Is it more than just a coincidence that this comes just as they announce their winter price free?

Apparently they say they have listened to their customers needs and have done it to keep energy prices down...yeh right!! In return they want to reward me with a special "Energy Discount Plan v4" which I have to sign up to until June 2012 to get 2.5% off their standard energy prices.

This in itself I see as another money making ploy (on top of doing away with nectar points) as they've conveniently failed to recognise in their letter that I am on the Eco20:20 tariff which gives me 20% off they standard energy prices at evenings and weekends (which is when I use energy the most).

Finally just to rub salt into the wound....they have the audacity to say that for those customers on the Read Reduce Reward scheme (which gave extra nectar points for submitting online readings) will still be expected to carry on reading their own meters for nothing in return!!

They give with one hand and they take with the other...just as long as they're not out of pocket!!

  • BG are taking over with nectar. Why not opt for EDF's cheapest tariff Online Saver 7 instead of energy discount plan ?.

Pah! What a pathetic sector to be indulging in exclusivity deals.

I got the letter today. Love it - a classic example of Hutbers Law which states that "Improvement means deterioration". They say that they freezing prices until March - but at the same time stopping giving Nectar points.

Er, sorry, doesn't that mean I less for my money? Isn't that a price rise? And they have the cheek to say that this is as a result of listening "to our customers". Oh, I see - it's all our fault...

Anyway, my deal comes to an end 31 December. I'm off to OVO Fixed price.
  • I guess you must all be Nectar millionaires then...by my workings out, the nectar points I get add up to 75p per quarter - not a huge loss it has to be said...

Perfectly fair point, especially as I didn't know about the Nectar points when I signed up with edf.

It's just the weasel wording of the letter that gets my goat. Mind you, it's pretty easily got, that goat.

In the last 12mths I've received over 4000 points (worth £20.00) from EDF on my gas and electric account and being on the Read Reduce Reward scheme. So it is quite a significant loss.....a bit more than 75p a quarter

We're with EDF (dual fuel) and Nectar. No word from either of them about the parting of ways.

Got my letter from them to say this at least a month ago, if not 6 weeks. Was first posted on here a month and a half ago. British Gas to offer Nectar points
