Electrical problem with tenant property
Options
Didn't know which board to put this on, so if any of the mobs feel the need to move it, then please do.
Ok, basically tenants have moved out/abandoned the property, and we're trying to sort out the electric. The place currently has a key meter, but we don't know who supplies them, don't know if it has a debt on it etc.
So we'd like to know, how do we find out who supplies the property, and if we're able to remove the key meter with little fuss, or if we're stuck with the debt that is on it (if there is one). As far as we're aware the tenancy has ended, so how do we also go about closing the account that currently supplied the property and changing it to the landlords account.
Thanks

How to identify your gas supplier
How to identify your electricity supplier
Once identified, contact the suppliers and tell them you want new accounts opening in your name.
You won't have to worry about any existing debt.
You should also ask as to how the meters can be changed to credit meters (it varies by supplier). If there's a cost, add this to the former tenant's bill
Edit: I see you say as far as you are aware the tenancy has ended?
What is the actual legal position? If unsure, seek independent legal advice before doing anything."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Thanks Premier,
I have a long thread on the renting board, but to save you the slog of reading it, the newest info is that possession was granted through the courts, the bailiffs came, they weren't in to be evicted, so the landlord changed the locks and so far they haven't tried to break back in. All above board so far.
From looking apparently the property is powered by TXU energy, but I'm having trouble finding a direct website for them, they seem to be connected with Eastern Energy and Powergen. There's no gas so one less problem to deal with.TSB: £4900

Ah yes, I was just reading that. Seems a bit complicated, but now you say there is a repossession order in place that has been effected, the property is now in the hands of the landlord.
The previous tenants (or were they squatters) cannot break back in. Thats called breaking and entering and the police can get them out if they do. To clarify, squatters cannot break in ... but are free enter through an open door or window if the property has been left insecure.
Anyway, back to the issue here. TXU energy is now E.On
(Eastern Electricity & Powergen were also former names for the supplier, or ones e.On have bought up over time)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Sadly it is complicated, one was a tenant, the other was a tenants friend. Thanks for the info, I'll get the landlord to ring up E.on and see what their policies and procedures are.TSB: £4900
