you may need to change the default sound from the laptop speakers to the HDMI port
right click on the volume icon (next to the clock) select 'playback devices' right click on the one that is HDMI and select 'set default' (if there is more than one HDMI try both) you will need to switch it back to laptop speakes when you are done using the HDMI port.
that should work for windows 7 other OS may be slightly different but the same principle0 -

What software are you using to play the DVDs? There may be an option within the software to control the output device, overriding the setting in Windows. I know this is possible in VLC.0

On my desktop the sound setting is in the BIOS, Not adjustable in the windows settings for the HDMI port.

Apreciar, you need to let us know what software you are using to play the DVD? There'll be a setting in here, or maybe just in Vista's sound settings, for where to output the DVD sound to.0

I am using Windows Media Player but cannot find any way to change the settings there. It's crazy, everything except a DVD will play with sound.Change is here to stay0 -
OK, well here's a trick, since I don't use WMP - go and download VLC media player, and try playing a DVD with it - get back to us with the results...0
