Hi
Grateful for some advice.
I have an apple ipod - one of the older types. I'm thinking of upgrading to a new touch one. My Itunes are all on my laptop. Sometimes I get a message saying 'ipod' not recognised.
Can I load the new Ipod with the Itunes I already have - basically want to put the same music on new ipod as the old.
Also, laptop is 5 years old and I guess in the next year or so that will need replacing too. I think my ipod is synched to my laptop - if I change laptop, will I be able to synch the ipod to it?
Thanks
Terri

yes you can sync 2 different ipods to one computer/itunes (actually you could sync an unlimited amount of ipods to one itunes), if you want different music on both then the easiest way is to make a playlist for each ipod. (though you will need itunes 10 for the latest ipod touch)
when you move computers you will need to set up the new computer install itunes, copy (via an external media solution (eg USB hard drive)) all your music/apps/tvshows ect (exactly the same way as you will move the rest of your files), then add them into itunes, (if you have apps (for the ipod touch) you will need to 'activate' the new itunes and also deactivate the itunes on the old computer if you are not going to use it anymore, you then connect your ipod to your new computer it will say it is 'synced with another computer and to continue it will erase the ipod' select yes and then resync it to the new computer (you will loose your game saves
)
you can also export your old itunes playlists to your new computer using the file menu
sounds a lot more complex than it is
or perhaps this my be easier (though I have never done it this way) http://www.ehow.com/how_2015484_transfer-itunes-library.html0 -
Hi Terri,
I had a gen 2 I-pod nano with my library on my laptop sync with it.If you buy a new I-pod it should ask you if you want to syn your new I-pod with your library, just click yes and all your existing music should be automatically put on the new one.
As regards the possible new laptop , I think your allowed to put your library on a maximum of 3-5 computers so you should be fine. With the new laptop download I-tunes and all your music is in your account on I-tunes..
Personally I paid £0-20p extra on all my songs and this basically buys you the right to put the music on as many I-pods, etc as you wish.. will check what they call it a update my post..... Think it was called "I tunes plus" aparently it replaced all the existing music files with a higher grade of file which gives a better sound, although to be honest I didn't notice the better quality sound..

this is not strictly true, where it may allow you to redownload some tracks you have bought esp if you bought them very recently, sometimes it will recharge you. (and will only work with files bought from itunes not files you have ripped from CD or bought from other music stores)
the only proper free way is to simply copy the music files from your computer and paste them onto the new computer.
also to get your DRM'd itunes music to standard non DRM'd tracks you can just burn them to CD and re rip them to your computer.0 -
Great - thanks everyone - I can stop worrying now
