Where to buy a 2nd hand car?

My car has died its death and even if it gets repaired, I wouldn't feel safe in it now. So other than Auto Trader, where can I look for a reliable car?

Budget isn't very big so looking for something around 7 years old.

eBay, local rag, local dealers. Piston heads, should have enough choice. Remember the source of the advert does not protect you from being done.

Have looked on ebay and all cars seem to be either a) scrappers or b) over-priced. I'm not fussed about make/model/diesel/petrol but it needs to be automatic as the mrs is learning in an automatic. Price range is below £2000. Thanks

go to the auctions with somebody who knows what they are doing..thats where most of the cars at the dealers come from so you might as well cut out the middle man.
