Claiming back overpaid money
Options
Hi Folks
I get both my gas and electricity from E On, and pay a fixed amount monthly direct debit.
I am in credit with them at the moment and was wondering if I can have the overpaid amount refunded back tro me.
Do you know if that is possible? Is there a set procedure for doing this, or do you think E On would just reduce my monthly direct debit amount in proportion to the overpaid amount?
Thank You.

You are in credit during the period of highest consumption and will probably have the largest bill of the year coming up. The energy companies tend to expect your account to be at £0 around April, would them repaying you now achieve that without having to increase your DD ? I am currently £220 in credit but my own forecast is for £5 in credit after my April bill.0

I'm in a similar position. In June e.on reimbursed me the small amount I was in credit but left my direct debit the same, without me even asking. I'm currently £140 in credit but know I've got usage exceeding what I'm paying, so it should balance out by the Spring.
You could call them, but I doubt if they'd adjust it or reimburse you now, unless you're in credit by a lot more than your anticipated usage.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Hi geek
Already some excellent advice on here. Thought I would just confirm a couple of things.
As molerat says, our aim is to achieve as near to a zero balance as possible by the time of the annual Direct Debit review in the spring.
We would expect accounts to be in credit at this time of year ready for the higher winter bills which are almost upon us.
However, give us a call if you think the credit on your account is more than enough to cover you. We will be happy to review your account.
Hope this helps geek. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help further. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer.

I overpaid by approx £700 to british gas
Took me 2 months of phone calls before they agreed to send a cheque out then it came very promptly indeed.
Stick with it as you are entitled to get you money back0
