INR - Poor seller response.

I won and paid for an item before midday 25/11/2010, seller stated economy post 6-8 days delivery.
Messaged seller 07/12/20110 saying INR, asking please could they confirm dispatch date. Response verbatim was "Didn't post it till Saturday because of bad weather"
Which Saturday? There have been two since payment!
Messaged seller 10/12/2010 , Item still not received and postman states no backlog at local depot, plenty of other mail received.
Seller's response verbatim " It must be the weather then, I'll send a photocopy of proof of purchase"
The amount involved is quite small, but I'm somewhat dismayed at the seller's responses. No apology for delay (OK I'm aware of the bad weather). There was no communication re despatch/late despatch prior to my message on the 7th.
Oh well, I might have to make my first ebay claim.

I'm still waiting on an item from the 23rd, and the seller has been fairly responsive, so I've agreed to wait until Monday, but this doesn't sound good - they should at least have let you know that it was going to be posted a bit late."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

This always makes me think they are trying to get out of responsibility.pseudopensioner wrote: »" It must be the weather then, I'll send a photocopy of proof of purchase".
I have one on the go at the moment thats a bit like this. I bought an item for £2 (including postage 1st class recorded!) on the 26th. Dispatch was meant to be same day. Anyway on Thursday I contacted them as we did have a few delays but the past 3 or 4 days the backlog has been caught up and I have received items bought after that.
Anyway I know with fees they will have actually lost money on this item. Anyway the reply was that they only sent it Saturday 4th due to illness and Weather. They were so ill they managed to list 20 items in that time but not able to email me!
Anyway they have said they will check the tracking and can I wait till next week. I'm expecting this item to be missing and a refund due to them losing money (maybe i'm too cynical). I have asked for the Tracking number saying I will check with our Sorting office but i'm not expecting it to be provided.0 -

I agree with cyberbob telling me they have proof of posting would make me go straight to a paypal claim as it sounds like they are trying to deny their responsibility. I'd also be cross not to get an update if they delayed payment, that in itself loses a star or two on communication.
Just open a full paypal claim today.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Really? TBH. The weather is HORRENDOUS here, it's difficult to even get to the post office. I'm still waiting for recorded delivery stuff from the 21st November, which RM haven't recorded at all. Mail wasn't even getting collected from our post offices...
I dunno. I would give the seller a little more leeway.0 -

In most cases I would but to be offered proof of posting and to not even be told item wasn't sent on time would annoy me.
Some of us have no snow at all so it is always worth it, if you are in an affected area, to drop buyers an email to say that your snow may make things difficult with posting .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The snow situation is not as easy as that:
No snow in Exeter or surrounding area. No snow in Liverpool. Item leaves Exeter but gets stuck in the Midlands where there is a ton of snow and nothing can get through.
Now that was just an example, I don't know about snow in either location, but trying to show that your delivery office and the sellers delivery office may be fine, it's whats in the middle that can cause havoc.0 -

I still think that in the actual position with have here where seller didn't post until some unspecified point 'due to snow' that he should have warned the OP that posting was delayed. With virtually no coverage on the news anymore about snow some of us may forget that other areas have any difficulty at all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Offering proof of postage to the buyer may be to avert the same suspicion bob has about his purchase.
Sounds to me like the seller is only trying to assure the buyer it's on it's way.
However, don't let me stop you worrying the OP with no proof.0 -
well there is a huge banner on ebay saying something along the lines of "postage delays due to weather"...isn't it kinda OBVIOUS right now that shipping/delivery/collection is difficult and will most likely be late.
But, saying that I have told buyers that items have been/will be late due to the weather so...0 -

Local Ham radio store just north of Lincoln has said they've not been able to send anything out since 25th November. North Lincs have had it worse than we have in East Yorkshire and Thursday last week was the first day my courier has collected in the last 2 weeks.
OP, out of interest, where is the seller?0
