Hi , bit of help needed if possible. We are collecting the keys for our new build home on thursday and we are struggling to get home and buildings insurance because the postcode is not registered. Any advice on how to get the home registered and on databases

A lot longer than till Thursday I'm afraid. My flat is only 30 years old and some of the databases still haven't got it right.

I guess you've tried calling insurance companies (rather than just trying online) and hit this block? If not, try calling. If you have, have you asked to speak to a supervisor? This will not be something new, it happens with lots of places so insurance companies must be capable of dealing with it.

i think the local authority is the body responsible for registering addresses
  • Assuming you have a mortgage on the new property then would have thought your lender would have used one for producing your mortgage offer. Failing that have you enquired at the Builders site office?
  • Yeah the builders have already contacted the council and it looks like its the council that is holding things up, tried a few insurance companies and because its not yet oin there database wont even look into it, guess its a call to the council tomorrow to see if i can speed up the process anyway

Call insurers direct. If that doesn't work, use a broker.

    I highly recommend co-op. http://www.co-operativeinsurance.co.uk/servlet/Satellite/1203668836269,CFSweb/Page/Insurance-Home
I have just insured my new build ready for completion, do a quote online, manually inputting the address then call them up to complete the transaction (I wasn't able to complete online I assume because of the address). They were by far the best quote.

Please be sure to tell them where to send the document ie. current address not new address. They forgot with me and I'm waiting for a second set to be sent.
