Audi A4's are bad. It used to cost me almost £20 to get a bulb changed. The back lights were okay - they came out. The front was nigh on impossible to do yourself.

Which Ford KA (new shape or old)? I had a 51 reg KA and could change the headlight bulbs by removing the metal clip on the plastic rear cover of the light assembly in the engine bay. Remove the bulb, slot a new one in, engage the clips, put the cover back on and the retaining metal clip. 10 minute job.

Not sure about the new shape KA though.

Thinking about it........ I think this simply comes down to lack of communication between the designers and the engineer's.
If it was purely to drive people into the dealerships, they'd have fitted security (torx) screws to the headlamp covers.
Peugeot are swines for using security screws/bolts (one of the first manufacturers to do so) and even my Vectra has a torx headed oil sump plug.

On my Fiesta Mk.6, you do have to remove the front grille and headlight unit, but it's remarkably (almost frighteningly) easy.

The front grille is held on by two clips at the top and two tabs at the bottom.

You can then easily get to the one very large screw at the bottom of the headlight. The other two equally large screws are at the top. They are also able to take a large cross-slot, Phillips or Torx screwdriver. Then release the top plastic clip and pull the headlight forward to release it from the lower clip.

You could then unplug the electrical connector and take it anywhere, but there's more than enough cable to allow you to change any of the three bulbs quite easily with it still plugged in.

With a bit of practice (like upgrading the headlights to OSRAM Night Breakers, the sidelights to 5W halogen bulbs and the orange indicators to silvered ones. ) it should be possible to do it by the roadside, if necessary.

On my car you need either small hands or to remove the airbox and air feed on the drivers side, then the battery box cover on the passenger side.

Pug 206 - left one is a breeze* right one is a right faff, you have to squeeze your hand between the washer bottle and the edge of the bonnet, twisting it round at the same time. Apparently Halfords can do that one next time.

*According to Mr Emmylou that is, I don't do things like that myself. I stand and pass things and hold the torch etc.
