Vailant combi dripping water from outlet pipe

Options
Hello. I hope someone can help. I have a 10 yr old turbo max combi boiler which is losing pressure daily. After reading some of these posts, I checked the outlet pipe in the garden and hot water was dripping out. Now the system is cool, the dripping is less but still there. I can't afford a new boiler and I live in a rural area with few people willing to come out and look at it. Is it at all possible that this is repairable? I am a very cash strapped pensioner but at least if I had some advice, I could try approaching all the local plumbers with some idea of what might be wrong. Oh, and will it last out until after Christmas if I keep topping up the water, because the chances of someone being able to come out before then are probably nil.

Many thanks

Chrissy

If its a condensing boiler and its a plastic pipe thats dripping water then its normal condensate. If its the metal pipe then potentially its a more serious problem.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
  • if combi boiler and you aare losing 'pressure' according to your boiler controls then may be leak in central heating system, maybe do simple check for obvious leaks around radiators. non proffesional D I Y er
  • If by "outlet pipe" you mean the 15mm copper, pressure release pipe (not the plastic pipe) then it is usually possible to adjust the pressure release valve (PRV). If you can locate it, there maybe a tiny screw in the centre of the unit shaft. Tightening the screw (clockwise) should decrease the flow through the outer pipe (stop the dripping) .. you can test if this is the correct screw by slackening it slightly which would obviously increase the leak thro the outer pipe. Only a slight turn is needed, normally.
I'm not a professional. Any advise I give should be taken with a pinch of salt  but if you need any further help. . . .

Could be a pinhole in the secondary heat exchanger - the circulated water is escaping to drain. If so, reparable ...but not cheap assuming that the parts are still available on a 10 year old boiler.
  • Thank you everyone. The boiler is a combi and the pipe is copper. I do have someone coming today to look at it but at least I can mention the possibility of a pressure thingy and hope it just needs adjusting.
