Gas safety check, BG and the Landlord

Hi
Can anyone tell me whether BG's "yearly Safety and Maintenance Inspection" is the same thing as the Landlords gas safety check, which is a legal requirement for all rented properties?
In other words, can i just get BG's emergency breakdown cover at £12 a month and not bother with the corgi appliance check? Or are these 2 things entirely separate?

You need to have a landlord's gas safety certificate to evidence that the necessary checks have been done.
I doubt very much that BG will provide this "for free" within the cost of their emergency breakdown cover.0 -
British Gas do a cover for landlords, it includes the safety check and gives a number that the tenants can call directly to sort out any problems.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. No, you need a Landlord/Home Owner Gas safety test done everyone 12 months (by someone corgi registered of course)
BG won't do this.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
No, British Gas do this thing called PropertyCare for landlords which consists of the same as the standard cover, plus gas safety certificates.
It costs £18 a month. More at https://www.britishgas.co.uk/propertycare (if you must).
So that sounds like it's £72 a year for just the certificates. D'oh!
That's more than it cost me to get a CORGI registered plumber to service AND issue the certificates for my property (for a gas fire as well as gas central heating).
But, to be honest, it's hard to compare the two services.
The £12 a month thing only covers the boiler and controls.
The £18 a month thing covers the whole central heating system, includes an annual boiler service (which the domestic cover does not) and, of course, the landlord's gas safety certificate.
So I'm not sure if it's actually worse value than the £12 a month thing; any more than I'm not sure whether any of BG's options are good value.0 -
BG do homecare cover at 4 levels, level 1 is restricted to the boiler stretchinng to level 4 which covers the heating system, plumbing , drains and electrics.
you have to compare at the right level.
property care gives two added advantages AFAIK. firstly it includes the gas safety check and secondly it allows the tenant to phone up BG with a problem rather than the tenant contacting the landlord.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
