flight to Iowa, USA

any tips/advice about how to reduce cost greatly appreciated. Will be travel for medical reasons for my child.
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

sorry to hear about your child....have you asked the hospital you are going to in Iowa to see if there are any suggestions they could offer?

You could try contacting the airlines to see if they have any reduced fares for this sort of reason (I do not know if they do, and do not want to get your hopes up, but may be worth asking).

You don't say when you want to go, but I assume fairly soon? Have you checked places like kayak.co.uk to get an idea, then you can go to the airline's own website and see what the price will be booking direct.

It seems likely there will not be any direct flights to any city in Iowa from the UK...though I could be wrong.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Where in the UK can you fly from?

Where in Iowa do you want to go to?

If it is very serious, hope it isn't, an airline may offer a compassionate fare.

If you are going to the US for medical treatment you need to apply for a specific visa (which costs money), you'll also need extensive medical insurance, and some airlines may not want your business.

I'm not trying to upset you, just trying to make sure you are aware of the costs involved. Are there no options in the UK ? Have you considered approaching childrens charities in the UK for support?

thanks for drawing my attention to it, in the first instance it will be just a consultation so should not be really different, I will try to enquire gently what would happen if we went for an operation/ treatment there in advance though. Of course there are alternatives, its just that the treatment method we followed was invented there which makes me think they might be better at it. not necessarily, I understand, but if someone is not enterily happy about treatment in the UK where else the one can go...

I was actually meaning approaching UK children's charities to help finance your trip to the US - have you tried that ?

Cedar Rapids has an airport that will take internal flights so you would fly to a major hib like Chicago (nearest) and then get a smaller internal flight

As others have said Kayak.co.uk or similar should be able to handle putting in Cedar Rapids as a destination
