A courier to deliver a bike - who will do it?

Can anyone tell me a courier who will collect and bike and deliver it. It is boxed but has dimensions of 2.2m x 0.7m x 0.2m. Parcel Force and Interlink won't take parcels that are over 2m and 1.5m in length respectively. Citylink do but I don't have an account with them so they won't do it. Please help. It's going from Newcastle to Edinburgh.

    Interparcel is worth a try.
I assume that you've taken the wheels off so you can send the bike and frame in smaller parcels?

I'm actually the buyer. It's actually an awkward situation that I'm trying to sort out. The buyer initially refused to sell. Look up my other thread on this forum. He has now agreed to sell after I threatened him with court action but only if I arrange a courier to collect it. I'm not wanting to push my luck here because I'm getting such a good deal and he's already refused to sell it once.

He already has it in a box that is the dimensions listed above. I'd rather not rock the boat any further. I'll try Interparcel though thanks.

It seems that the best quote that I can find for that length is £60 from Interparcel. I've tried Parcels 2 Go and DHL as well now. Anyone else got any ideas. I could ask him to find another box but I'd be pushing it. The only other option is to collect it but I don't have a car.

Renting a van with weekend rates could well be less than £60.
  • Best bet is to find a local courier who has a Citylink Account and would collect for you. Only courier I know in Newcastle is DTF... tel no 0161 491 3498 ... very reliable but not sure if they have a Citylink account. Worth a shot

  • Not sure how expensive it would be but you could always get the train down and pick it up in person. Down and back in the same day wouldnt be a problem.

I recently sent a child's motorbike which was quiet bulky via Parcel Force next day delivery cost £13.99, I arranged and payed for it online and they just collected it.

I'm really not sure about the dimensions of your bike though worth a try.

get a bus/taxi/train/ aeroplane to get there and cycle it back!! :D sorry just kidding obviously!

Do you have a local garage or a friend who has an estate car? I had the same problem, not as far etc but I rented an estate car from my friendly local garage for £15 - but try rental vans etc......

  • I have recently sold a bike on Ebay and put it in a box of another bike I had bought. I dont know the size but it was an adult mtb 19" and arranged through Parcelforce over the internet. With parcelforce 48 costs as little as £17.25 and if you book on their website they dont ask for dimensions.

In my experience many times I have guessed the size of parcels (even big ones) and they never questioned the size when they collected.

When I use the interparcel booking service I sometimes have to try skimming the dimensions down a little bit until it fits into an acceptable range. I've never had any problems either. I don't take the !!!!, just some odd shaped parcels have a volume that must exceed some limit on the software though the parcels are fine really.
