What kind of car are you looking at? Age?

FYI - don't assume that a fully stamped book means a car has a full service history. Always check stamps against receipts as any Tom, !!!!!! and Harold could stamp a book (and make it look good).

If the receipts are missing, you can usually get a printout of any main dealer history - at your local main dealer. If the car is older, people tend to their cars to Independent garages, so it would be more difficult/ time consuming to find this out. It all depends on the price and age of what you are buying.

RE: VIN and Chassis number checks. You'll need a HPI check to be safe. The link below seem quite reasonable

    Hope this helps!

  • As vr6lad said.... I checked a number of nearly new Audi's which had fully stamped service books and mileage showing as under 49k on each. I called the manufacturers national line and gave them the reg plate and asked for the servicing dates and mileage for any work carried out and 4 out of 10 were on false miles, most over 100k !

Check the usual:- knocks/rattles/ white creamy substance under the oil cap/ oil level, paint/panel fit all around.

HPI checks are great (might be worth going through RAC Check instead, as I believe it goes through HPI's database but only charges £25 rather than the usual £40 +)
