Well, I haven't criticized anyone for what they've spent - but the thought of taking a whole load of new or barely-used toys to the tip makes me a bit queasy.
    What a waste.

It was a complete waste my original thought was to take them to the local hospital but as said they were covered in mould most of them even after scrubbing them I would not have been comfortable with any child using them again the tip was the only option really :(

    Good for you :T

NO of course I am not saying you HAVE to spend xyz or you are a miser not at all some people cannot spend xyz and some could but for whatever reason dont see the point in achieving the best they can for their own children.

SO you spend 50 quid on you DD out of choice then, so in all realism she could never have owned a bike, a games console or anything really for that matter that cost more than a few quid, you would be hard pushed to have a "bulging santa sack" with 50 quids worth of poundland tat, it must be a very small sack more of a sock maybe????

Of course your daughter is thrilled very chrstmas and no doubt she is also thrilled in January returning to school to hear how her friends go all the latest gadgets and bike and consoles but of course none of this is important she is more than happy telling them about her buging santa sack and her chocolate orange....................

You can kid yourself as much as you want to as all you are trying to do is make yourself feel better, every kids has something they dream of for some of them it is the latest games console, for others a laptop for some mobile phones, bikes yadi yadi yaaaaaaaaaa Your daughter is no different to the other god knows how many millions of children that live in the western world but you keep telling yourself you are instilling good morals and making her happy because your daughter is different isn't she? At 9 years old she never hears of her firends getting the latest things and think "oooo if only I could have had one of those" yes she is different I am sure.

She sounds like a classic example of "oh look yet more tat from Santa oh well put on a smile dont want to come across as being ungrateful :( "

And WHERE can you buy a chocolate orange for a quid? DO tell I am addicted to the :)

That's a stinking post and horribly judgemental.

You don't even know what that poster has bought, but according to you it's a heap of poundlad tat.

Her daughter may receive loads of presents from other family members, or God forbid, is a child who doesn't really give a stuff what other kids have.

That post has upset me so God knows what it's done to the poor Mother!

ETA : You are knocking people for spending not a lot of money and there is you who has admitted to spending thousands on stuff that the kids weren't even grateful for most of the time and were hardly played with?

Oh dear f you are going to try and "hit back" at least have the decency to read my threads properly.....................

I said you would be hard pushed to have a santa sack bulgin with 50 quids woth of poundland tat not that she had indeed been to poundland and the poster openly admitted their miserly way were through choice so yes I hope it poke them a bit!

And so far as "well they get loads of present from family members" yeah because the chances are your family dont agree with you either but with everyone running around thinking about poor mum and dads feelings family decide to spend a bit extra to make sure said relative does feel like a normal kid!

I would be so shamed if my family spent more on my kids at christmas than I did

I dont !!!!! foot around there are kids in this country deeply unhappy because their parents spend too much time thinking about themselves and what they need, limiting your child to 50 quid at christmas which with the best of intentions buy jack sh** so you can then go to the sales and spend hundreds on clothes or ooooooooooooooooo lets go on a family holiday we will spend less at christmas to pay for it, this just oozes selfishness to me

And there are too many kids who are spoilt rotten, who are ungrateful and who don't even use or play with their gifts.

Your kids, by your own admission!

Is it better to spend a small amount of money on a child for Christmas, or to spend thousands on gifts that will hardly get looked at?

You do know what a sale is?
You do know what a glitch is?
You do know what a loophole is?
You do know what a freebie is?

Just because someone says they have only spent £50, doesn't mean they will be getting crap, if they have sourced goods from the list above, a kid could have some cracking presents!

Amazon blackfriday were doing wii's and xbox's for £50.

I don't think there is anything wrong with spending £50. It's the ones on here hwo have went off on one about others spending more than £50, buying highchairs, furnature and clothing for Christmas. That what annoys me.

Wow, don't normally reply to threads like this but felt I needed to.

I don't have kids yet but our family then to do about £100 on each child (officially I'm still the kid till I have kids!!!)

But just felt the need to say Christmas is about so much more than presents. Jesus being one of them. No, I'm not some raving evangelical Christian but I think its what its about.

Oh well it was reasonably nice on here but you always get one who thinks it's ok to go on the attack...

    I'm outta here!

Thanks to all those who are able to discuss things like this without being rude and slating anyone with a different opinion from their own - I've enjoyed reading how you do things. :)
  • I am no miser, I choose to spend next to nothing on my 3 year old because as a practising Christian I object wholeheartedly to the commercialisation of Christmas. She is 3 and given that she does not watch any TV at all she does not see advertising. We have a large extended family so she gets too much already (even before we buy her anything) in my opinion!

We would rather overpay the mortgage and give her a private secondary education, both of which are more beneficial to her in the long run than rotting her mind in the short term with a Nintendo DS or whatever!

It's a matter of priorities: you think mine are all wrong, but yours are all wrong to me.

For the record: I would also like to add that I do not buy 'chips' in my weekly shop, nor do my family have any problems!

    I know I can't remember what I got when i was 3.

Best present I ever got as a teenager was a quad bike. Funny that the farm happened to need one too that year and it got used by Dad a lot more than me!! The helmet was a nice touch though
