Ebay Ipod Scam?

My daughter spotted an Ipod for sale on Ebay at a buy it now price of £6.99. This should have sent alarm bells but it sounded genuine. I sent off my money and received a link to another website offering the Ipod free if you subscribe to any one of a series of subscription deals. One of them was a free trail DVD rental which I had already used so they wanted me to sign up this time. Needless to say I wasn't able to subscribe to any of the offers for various reasons and haven't got my Ipod.
Any users come across this possible scam?

Very common, you need to read the description very carefully they will mention a link somwhere. Report to EBay and do a PayPal chargeback and leave negative feedback.0

This scam has been around for so many years and i'm amazed by people who still fall for it and think they can get an ipod for £6.99. If this is not being gullible then i dont know what it is.
Normally the auction will state somewhere that this is not an auction for an actual ipod and is actually a link to let you know how to get it for free. If you have read the auction properly, you would have notice that it is obviously not genuine and I mean the price at BIN is already obvious enough.0 -

Yes they'll know that now, but is there any real need to be so unpleasant!
They was only asking and I bet you've never done anything so silly in your life have you?Regards,

Sorry to hear you got scammed. the old adage is particularly true of ebay - 'if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is'
At least you only got burnt for £6.99, i've seen some people bidding on laptops and xbox360s that are, when you check the wording, selling history, etc are definitely scams, and they could be out a lot of hard earned cash.0 -
Also, from memory is it not illegal to sell links, so you could report him?
Oh, and you could leave him feedback saying this is only a link NOT an ipod...0 -
What's the betting if he leaves a neg the seller will reply with some pleasantry such as " Idiot, can't read"0

Yup, and he has done that before, when you look at the feedback he has left for others.
BUT, personally, if i felt strongly about this - which maybe the OP does, then he could take the hit, and then put his own comment after it saying - 'this guy was a scammer selling links'. it won't do the buyer any harm to have that one neg, but it could help stop the scammer....0 -
